Puppy walking along Gum Bend Lake

Pet-friendly Lachlan

 | November 22

With more and more holidaymakers bringing pets with them when they travel, we’re pleased to say that the Lachlan region is the teacher’s pet of pet friendly destinations.

IT’S A DOG’S LIFE

For starters (fur starters?), your four-legged friends are welcomed by many of our accommodation providers – contact them to confirm availability. Free camping makes things even easier, with plenty of nature to enjoy and dog-friendly open spaces (respect others at all times by keeping your dog on leash). Walking with your dog is a great way to meet the locals (both two and four legged varieties!) and in the towns, you’ll often find water bowls outside many cafes or perhaps even the occasional doggy treat. (Be sure to say “hi” to the resident coffee cart dog at Lake!)

Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin in particular both have wonderful waterfront reserves to enjoy (have clean up bags ready for any number twos that might appear!). And when it’s time to stretch their legs, you can do so in the following off-leash exercise areas:

UNLEASH THE LACHLAN!

  • Beside Riverview Caravan Park, Diggers Ave, Condobolin
  • Between the 60kph sign and Treatment Works southern boundary, Golf Links Rd, Condobolin
  • Parkland opposite cemetery, 30 Maitland St, Condobolin
  • Mackinnon Park between Officers Parade, Wattle and McGregors Sts, Condobolin
  • Reserve on Loughnan St, bounded by Yelkin, Grace and Uabba Sts, Lake Cargelligo

As always, responsible pet-ownership applies at all times – allowing every person (and animal) to enjoy Lachlan’s great outdoors.

”…This here old dog has follered me for — for ten years; through floods and droughts, through fair times and — and hard — mostly hard; and kept me from going mad when I had no mate nor money on the lonely track…”
– Henry Lawson from his poem ‘That There Dog O’ Mine’
