Eat & Drink

Unlock Your Appetite

Exploring the Lachlan can be hungry and thirsty work. But you’re in luck – with local establishments on hand to serve up honest, hard-working fare that will surprise, delight and fuel your next adventure!

Our off-the-beaten-track location may feel more Michelin off-road tyres than Michelin stars, yet you can still find a shiny nugget here if you know where to look…

Get your fix

Starting the day with a good coffee has become an Aussie tradition, and the Lachlan is no exception. It’s true that you’ll be unlikely to see too many hipster baristas roaming the streets, but venues including Condo’s main street favourites Happy Daze coffee lounge or Cafe Romo – also offering tasty brekky and lunch options to accompany your cappuccino. You can even enjoy a cuppa in the window while you shop for clothing, homewares and gifts at nearby The Hall or at the newly opened Sculpture-adjacent Visitor Information Centre.

Over in Lake Cargelligo, Fisho’s provides coffee and bread and buns baked fresh daily. (Time your stay right, and you may even catch one of their famous Friday pizza nights!) However, the finest ‘coffee with a view’ spot in the region surely belongs to The Fine Filly horse float coffee cart on Lake Cargelligo’s picturesque foreshore. Grab a tasty toastie while you’re there and enjoy a friendly chat with the locals. What a way to start the day!

Dinner & drinks

This is proudly ‘hotel’ country – where every small town on the map boasts its unofficial meeting place as the local hotel. Such spots include Tottenham Hotel, Fifield Hotel, Burcher Pub, Albert’s Rabbit Trap Hotel and Lake Cargelligo’s Royal Mail and Commodore Hotels. Meanwhile Condobolin’s Imperial, Railway Hotel and Red Cattle Dog are just a few spots that all offer big hearty meals (and accommodation) in generous surroundings. On top of this, a selection of pizza bars and bistros – including the Golf Club’s 19th hole – provide options aplenty.

Most of these locations will serve up big, hearty meals with a menu of favourites that have become staple country classics – with something for everyone. But beyond the parmi’s, surfs and turfs, there are some seriously innovative items to sample and plenty of flair amongst the fare. You’ll not go hungry for options, that’s for sure!

Just desserts

Be sure to leave room for dessert, with a visit to the award-winning No Moo 4 U in Condobolin’s main street. Literally catering to every taste, this gelato bar offers dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free treats in a dizzying array of flavours. A sweet way to end the day!
